Torrefied Hard Maple Neck Blank 1200 × 105 × 50 mm
Torrefied Hard Maple (Acer saccharum) is a benchmark wood for electric bass neck blanks and other stringed instruments that demand high structural stability and long-term mechanical reliability.
With an exceptional 1200 mm length, this format is ideal for special projects such as extended scale basses, multiscale instruments or fully custom designs requiring maximum usable length. The combination of 105 mm width and 50 mm thickness provides ample material for complex neck profiles, headstock shaping and smooth transitions.
Torrefaction and Dimensional Stability
This Hard Maple neck blank has undergone a torrefaction process, a vacuum-based thermochemical treatment that removes internal moisture and volatile compounds while preserving the cellulose, hemicellulose and lignin structure.
As a result, the wood loses approximately 20% of its mass with no significant change in volume. The resulting material offers very high dimensional stability and a response to temperature and humidity changes comparable to naturally long-aged woods, while developing a distinctive roasted colour.
Wood Selection
These pieces are not graded by quality. Cracked wood or pieces with major structural defects are excluded, ensuring sound and functional material for lutherie, although natural variations in colour, grain pattern or growth ring layout may be present.
