Wenge is a dense, dark wood full of character. With a density of 830 kg/m³, it's ideal for turned or carved pieces that demand visual impact and mechanical strength. Its mostly straight grain and medium to coarse texture allow for clean, defined cuts, though it requires sharp tools and experienced hands, especially when carving.

Native to Central Africa and known as Millettia laurentii, wenge stands out in the making of decorative bowls, turned handles, box lids, or bold low-relief carvings. It takes oil finishes well, but proper preparation is needed for varnishes. You’ll find reinforced carving knives, heavy-duty gouges, and oils to enhance its natural grain in our store.
