Cocobolo Wood for Woodturning and Carving

Cocobolo is one of the most striking woods for decorative turning and carving. Its vivid grain with red, orange, and black tones, paired with a very high density (990–1250 kg/m³), gives it unmatched presence and polishability.

Native to Central America and botanically known as Dalbergia retusa, it’s perfect for turned pieces, ornamental handles, decorative carvings or bold sculptures. Being oily and dense, it requires sharp tools and careful control. Be aware that its dust can be irritating; we recommend using respiratory protection and gloves. It is also not suitable for items that come into contact with food or drink.

Our store offers durable chisels, fine abrasives, and neutral oils to help you work it safely and precisely.
