B-Stock Macacauba Classical/Acoustic Guitar Backs

Macacauba is a very special and hard-to-find wood. It stands out for its striking appearance, with vibrant colors, and for its acoustic properties, offering a unique sound and a very clear tone.

At Maderas Barber, we’ve made the most of this wood for soundboards and fingerboards, so don’t miss the opportunity to discover Macacauba Back and Sides for Classical Guitar—a wood that continues to amaze anyone who plays it.

In general, it works well with both hand and machine tools, although areas with interlocked grain should be handled with care to avoid tear-out.

How is Macacauba Classified?

When it comes to backs for classical and acoustic guitars, most pieces are cut with the grain running along the length—known as “quartered” cuts. However, with exotic woods like Cocobolo, Ziricote, or Exotic Ebony, it's possible to find some sets cut partially in “flat sawn” due to the size limitations of the trees.

Although this type of cut is not ideal for tone and stability, it does offer the instrument an incredibly beautiful appearance.
