Indian rosewood , scientifically known as dalbergia latifolia , is a highly sought-after hardwood known for its exceptional properties . Native to South Asia, this wood is of immense importance in luthiery .
The most notable property of Indian rosewood is its distinctive and beautiful grain . The wood has a rich reddish-brown color with darker streaks, giving it a pleasing visual appearance. It is also known for its ability to retain its vibrant color even after decades of use and exposure to sunlight.
In addition to its visual appeal, Indian rosewood possesses excellent acoustic qualities that make it highly prized in the musical instrument industry. Guitars, sitars and other stringed instruments made from Indian rosewood produce a warm, resonant sound . This wood is most commonly used in the mid-ranges of both classical and acustic guitars.
How is Indian Rosewood graded?
In the AAA grade Indian rosewood bindings we will find healthy and free of imperfections pieces. In this species the variety of tones is very large, but in this quality we will always find dark pieces, either in brown, reddish or violet tones, with a very even grain and great density.
