Overview Quilted Sapele Classical Guitar Backs:

What makes Sapelli Quilted backs so desirable? Sapelli quilted is a variation of this wood in which a characteristic pattern appears when flatsawn. This pattern or motif is reminiscent of a surface covered with bubbles, very characteristic, and which looks almost three-dimensional when varnished. We can find this wood in the most exclusive models of famous brands such as Martin, Taylor or PRS, among others. Otherwise, it has the other mechanical and acoustic qualities that make it interesting as an tonewood. But it is undoubtedly its unique appearance that makes it an interesting wood. Although not as spectacular as the pieces in the AAA grade, the standard quality pieces are considerably more eye-catching and attractive than most of the woods commonly used as backs.
