Overview AAA Birdseye Maple Classical Guitar Sides:

Reserved for high-end guitars, birdseye maple backs are undoubtedly one of the most appealing pieces in our catalog. This stunning pattern makes each piece unique. Luthiers choose these backs for both their aesthetic and acoustic qualities. Like all other maples, maple backs and maple sides give the instrument superior brightness and volume. Due to this blend of beauty and signature sound, it is a highly prized wood among instrument builders.

¿What is birdseye?

Bird's eye is a type of pattern that appears in several types of wood, especially hard maple (Acer saccharum). It has a characteristic appearance that resembles tiny, swirling eyes. This designation does not necessarily indicate a specific species of Acer. It remains one of the most sought-after varieties of maple.

Although it has never been scientifically proven, the prevailing opinion is that the appearance is related to adverse growing conditions. As the tree tries to access more sunlight, buds begin to sprout on its trunk in an attempt to grow more branches. But the tree lacks the nutrients needed to sustain growth and the new shoots fail, resulting in small knots embedded in the wood of the tree.

However, no one has demonstrated a complete understanding of the combination of climate, soil, tree variety, insect, virus or genetic mutation that might produce the effect. Even though there are some clues in the bark of a tree that indicate that the wood might have the birdseye figure, you can't tell how attractive the pattern of the piece will be until you have it in your hand.

How is birdseye maple graded?

AAA grade Birdseye Maple pieces are the most eye-catching pieces available. The sides have a large amount of figure, with the light color typical of this maple and no blemishes or defects that could detract from the piece. Finally, once varnished, these pieces are of incomparable beauty.
