Ebony wood is prized for its deep black color, fine texture and uniform grain, making it a favorite for high-contrast, precision work. With a density between 1030 and 1050 kg/m³, it's among the hardest and most stable woods for turning and carving.

Native to Central and West Africa and botanically classified as Diospyros crassiflora, it demands very sharp tools and careful handling. Ideal for small sculptures, fine details, turned handles or inlays. It’s essential to protect it from drying out to prevent cracking, and use respiratory protection, as its dust can be irritating.
