Overview Smooth grit Fret leveling file
This fret leveling file has a hard steel abrasive section with a smooth grit that, along with its small dimensions and ergonomic wooden handle, allows precise filing operations in specific areas of the fretboard, becoming a very useful and versatile tool. It is suitable not only for guitar builders but also for anyone who needs to make a quick repair, for example to solve a buzzing problem or sharp fret edges on the side of the fretboard of their guitar.
Note: If the work to be done requires filing a larger amount of material, its thick grit version is the perfect tool. (article code 14944)
When to level the frets?
Leveling or straightening is a process that involves grinding the frets with a flat abrasive surface tool so they are all the same height once placed on the fretboard. When installing new frets it is always necessary to do at least a small leveling to minimize any possible irregularities that may have occurred during placement. Furthermore, the leveling process is also an excellent alternative when a guitar has problems with fretting or buzzing caused by the wear generated by the strings at specific points of the frets, so leveling is done if there is no excessive wear and there is a margin of material that allows it. A properly done leveling job allows to have a lower string action without facing humming or fret buzz problems when playing.
It should be noted that after leveling it is necessary to return the fret crown to its semi-cylindrical shape for correct intonation . This is easily achieved with the crowning files. <p>Once the frets have been set and radiused and the sides have been beveled we will proceed to leveling and crowning. The Hosco TL-FFLD23 file is a more than capable tool for this task. With the diamond plated side we can finish leveling the frets while with the curved edges we can shape them at the tips. Its 600 diamond grit has a high abrasive power while at the same time being able to work the metal without leaving deep marks.</p>\n

<h2>When to level the frets?</h2>\n
<p>Leveling or straightening is a process that involves grinding the frets with a flat abrasive surface tool so they are all the same height once placed on the fretboard. When installing new frets it is always necessary to do at least a small leveling to minimize any possible irregularities that may have occurred during placement. Furthermore, the leveling process is also an excellent alternative when a guitar has problems with fretting or buzzing caused by the wear generated by the strings at specific points of the frets, so leveling is done if there is no excessive wear and there is a margin of material that allows it. A properly done leveling job allows to have a lower string action without facing humming or <strong>fret buzz</strong> problems when playing.</p>\n
<p>It should be noted that after leveling it is necessary to return the fret crown to its semi-cylindrical shape for <strong> correct intonation</strong>.
