Denser than most <strong>Dalbergias</strong>, its glassy, sustained tone is often compared to that of <strong>African blackwood</strong>. However, it is slightly less brittle and, unlike the former, most sets have attractive dark streaks (called landscape or spiderwebbing), similar to those found in <strong>ziricote</strong> or <strong>cocobolo</strong> to name a few examples. The colouring ranges from an intense brown with reddish tones to a greyish green with many shades, crossed by dark lines that provide heterogeneity and appeal to the piece.
