How do I choose the right fret?

As for the width, the greater the width, the more comfortable the contact with the neck will be, but it will also require more precise work when crowning them to avoid intonation problems.
In terms of material, alpaca is the traditional choice. This is an alloy made of zinc, copper and nickel that has the ideal balance between hardness, abrasion resistance and ductility. We can find different formulas with a zinc presence that ranges from 12% to 18%. The higher this percentage, the greater the fret hardness. Frets made of other materials such as bronze or stainless steel have appeared in recent years and offer new possibilities. For stainless steel frets you will need special tools to work with it, due to its hardness.
