El taco para sujeción del mástil es un suplemento de madera con una cara cóncava recubierta de corcho que se adapta a la forma del mástil sin dañarla, permitiéndole al Luthier sujetarlo con una prensa para trabajar cómodamente en el tallado de la cabeza o utilizarlo como soporte para recostar el instrumento e incrustar los trastes , trabajar en el diapasón, trabajar en la cejuela, etc...
