This is an interesting design to follow - the small guitar has a surprisingly vibrant and penetrating sound, especially in the treble range. The smaller volume of air contained inside the soundbox means that the bass range is less full, but provided a well-balanced instrument is constructed, the result is usually very pleasing.

He was primarily an artist, painting in the Impressionist style, and for many years he taught painting in Paris. He was a self-taught guitar maker, and he made his instruments by studying guitars made by Torres. He also had the opportunity to observe the Paris based maker, Julian Gomez Ramirez, who was a close friend. Bouchet had a natural gift as a luthier, and Julian Bream owned three of his guitars. Bouchet is often thought of as having been the first luthier to introduce the "bridge bar" (a large strut glued to the under-surface of the soundboard, under the position of the bridge-saddle. In fact Bouchet was the first to explain that he had seen this in a guitar by Torres. Bouchet liked the idea, and he experimented with this as a way of controlling the sound and stabilizing the bridge. <li><strong>Description:</strong> Torres is rightly seen as the founder of the modern Spanish classical guitar, and many experienced luthiers today still continue to make their guitars closely following the designs established by Torres in about 1860.Having made a guitar according to the larger dimensions of the Torres Plan Number 2, many guitar makers find it interesting to build a small guitar, often referred to as a Parlour or Requinto Guitar, in contrast to a full-size guitar. This is an interesting design to follow - the small guitar has a surprisingly vibrant and penetrating sound, especially in the treble range. The smaller volume of air contained inside the soundbox means that the bass range is less full, but provided a well-balanced instrument is constructed, the result is usually very pleasing.</li>\n

From the 1970s, when he collaborated closely with the guitarist Julian Bream, Romanillos' guitars began to be appreciated all over the world. Not only did he start making guitars with superb tonal qualities, but his supreme craftsmanship was unrivalled. Conventional wisdom viewed the sound box as a single element, made from various species of wood, that all vibrate when activated by the plucked string; - this multitude of vibrations contributes to the overall timbre and projection of sound produced by the sound box. There are many advantages to this approach, but one of the problems is that some of the energy produced by the plucked string is lost as it moves into the sides, back, neck and even the body of the guitarist.\n
<p>There are many variations on this 'lattice' approach, the most extreme sometimes being criticised for being too 'banjo'-like, with a piercing sound but little sustain and a loss of the traditional warmth of the Spanish classical guitar sound. With careful use of wood, thicknesses and interior support, it is possible to create a guitar with a traditional 'guitar sound', at the same time having greater projection, with good balance across the bass, mid and treble ranges, and simply being a greater pleasure to play.</p>\n
